Why I don’t use props in Newborn Photography

Real life is where the magic happens.

When I photograph your family at home, I’m not just taking pictures of the baby. I’m documenting the space where your little one will grow up. The nursery you spent weeks preparing. A handmade blanket from friends. Tiny knitted booties from Grandma. Sometimes the family dog wanders into the frame, and honestly, those end up being some of my favorite shots.

Every session is different, because every baby, every home, and every family is different. That’s the beauty of photographing real life.

3 reasons I chose a natural approach

1. Your baby is already perfect.

Props and costumes pull attention away from what matters most: your baby’s face, expressions, and tiny fingers. These are the details you’ll want to remember years from now.

2. Comfort and safety come first.

Some trendy poses require complicated setups and can be uncomfortable for newborns. I keep my sessions calm and gentle. Your baby is never forced into unnatural positions.

3. Timeless photos never go out of style.

What looks cute today can feel dated in a few years. I want you to love these images just as much in 5, 10, or 15 years. Real moments don’t age.

The heart of my work

I’m a mom of two, so I know how quickly the newborn stage passes. Years later, I catch myself studying old photos. Not just to see how tiny my kids were, but to remember the world around them: the wallpaper in their room, the toys they loved, the small everyday details.

That’s what I aim to capture for you here in the East Bay: warm, meaningful moments that reflect your real life. Your baby doesn’t need props to shine.
