1. Keep it simple. You don’t need to decorate the hospital room or buy anything special. A plain swaddle or a neutral onesie photographs beautifully.
2. Wear something comfortable. A soft nursing-friendly top in a neutral color is perfect. This session is about connection, not outfits.
3. Don’t tidy for me. Really. The unmade bed, the flowers from your best friend, the coffee cups on the tray table: that’s your real story, and it’s beautiful.
4. Siblings are welcome. If a big brother or sister is coming to meet the baby, we’ll capture that first meeting. It’s always magic: just give them a heads-up that a photographer friend will be there quietly.
5. Let me handle the light. I’ll gently move around the room to find the best window light. You just stay cozy — no need to think about it at all.
6. Tell your nurse. Most Bay Area hospitals are fine with a quiet photographer, but it’s always good to mention it to your care team in advance.
7. Home works beautifully too. If you go home early, we’ll do the session there — curled up on your own bed, in the nursery you so carefully prepared. Just let me know where you are.
